Teqball Makes Its Asian Games Debut

A football, a curved table and an athlete in the air: that is Teqball. The sport mixes football skills with a table-based game. It began in Hungary in 2012 and is played on a special curved table.
The basic rules are simple. Players may use most body parts, but not their hands or arms. A player or team has a maximum of three touches to return the ball. In doubles, teammates must pass the ball to each other at least once.
Teqball made its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan. Thailand won three of the five gold medals, according to the Olympic Council of Asia. The new sport gave people a chance to see unusual skills such as high kicks and headers.
The game has grown from a new idea into an international competition. Its governing body, FITEQ, lists more than 150 national federations. The Asian Games debut does not make Teqball an Olympic sport, but it shows how sports can move from a local idea to a larger stage.
