An expanded disaster education park opened at Shigui Elementary School in Yunlin County, Taiwan, on October 31, 2026. The site has two purposes: helping people prepare for disasters and providing shelter when one happens. CNA reported on the opening, with its Japanese service publishing the story on November 2.
Students and other visitors can learn about dangers such as floods, fires and earthquakes. The facilities draw on Japanese experience. They include a small local electricity network that is intended to keep basic power available when the outside supply is damaged.
According to the reports, the site can accommodate up to 600 people and provide water and electricity for up to three days. These figures describe its planned capacity, rather than the results of a real disaster.
About 200 people took part in a nighttime shelter exercise linked to the opening. They practised distributing supplies, setting up tents, checking water and power, cooking and managing hygiene. The exercise let participants try the steps involved in running a shelter.
