Black Clothes Never Seem to Go Out of Style

You enter a shop planning to buy something colourful but leave with another black outfit. A CNA Lifestyle report explored this familiar choice through interviews with fashion designers, shop owners and stylists in Singapore. At Rock Daisy, black accounts for 32% of sales, compared with 11% for green.
Black is easy to match with clothes people already own. The same trousers can suit work, dinner or a family event. A black shirt can also look relaxed or formal with different shoes and accessories. Wearing an item often may make its price feel easier to accept.
For some shoppers, black reduces worries about standing out or how their bodies look. It may make stains or wrinkles less noticeable. Choosing black can even make an unusual clothing shape feel less risky.
However, preferences differ. Indigo blue is more popular at 45R. At a Rock Daisy shop event, green became the best seller after black and cream had led online. Seeing and trying colours can change what feels comfortable.
