Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. The book-style device opens into a larger screen that Apple says was inspired by the iPad. Folded in half, it has the shape of a wider iPhone.
The Duo starts at $1,999 in the United States and can cost as much as $3,200. Apple says it is its largest and most expensive iPhone. The product was unveiled by John Ternus, who recently became Apple's chief executive after Tim Cook stepped down.
Foldable phones have been sold for years by companies such as Samsung and Huawei. Apple says it tried to avoid a design that feels like two phones joined together. It says the Duo's folding features are easy to use.
Analysts say the price and the learning curve could limit sales. Carolina Milanesi of Creative Strategies said people may be interested in foldables, but moving from a traditional phone requires adjustment. The device is a major design change, but whether many people will buy it is still uncertain.
