Sydney has another international airport. According to the report, passenger services began there on 25 October. Western Sydney International Airport is about 60 kilometres from the city centre.
Why does Sydney need it? The older main airport usually cannot have regular flights between 11 pm and 6 am. The new airport can stay open all day and night. Airlines can choose flight times more easily.
For people in western Sydney, the journey to an airport may become shorter. New hotels and other businesses may also come. But these are possible benefits, not certain results. The airport's future size does not tell us how many passengers will use it in its first year.
