Man Rescued Alive From Nepal Tunnel After Ten Days

Rescuers in Nepal pulled Chinese national Lu Haitao alive from a hydropower tunnel about 10 days after floods. The Nepali army said he was found in a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 project. He was taken by helicopter to hospital in stable condition.
The floods began on August 26 after ice, rock and mud rushed through a Himalayan valley. The rescue was the third time workers had been found alive in tunnels linked to hydropower projects. Two Nepali workers were rescued from another tunnel the day before.
Reports do not explain exactly how Lu survived underground for so long. Rescue teams must check tunnels carefully because mud, floodwater and damaged structures can be dangerous. The search for missing people continued.
