Japanese companies are putting more money into India. Shoppers can see brands such as Uniqlo and Muji opening and growing there. Japanese banks and other businesses are also looking for new opportunities in India.
In July, Japanese companies announced $12.5bn of investment in India through about 120 agreements. The plans included areas such as computer chips and green energy. India has a large and growing consumer market, so it can offer companies a place to grow.
China is one reason for this change, but it is not the only reason. Japan's population is falling, which can make its home market smaller. Companies also face geopolitical tensions and supply-chain problems in China. They are reducing risk, not simply leaving China completely.
