Hong Kong has stopped a plan for new lights on The Peak. This hill is famous for its city views. The lights would bring visitors to its walking paths at night.
But some people did not want them. They liked the quiet paths and trees. Work had already started. Parts of the paths were closed, and some plants and trees were removed. People worried about changes to this natural place.
Officials looked at a smaller plan. It would use fewer trees. But they were unsure it would bring enough visitors. On October 29, they cancelled the project. The Tourism Board promised to remove the equipment and repair the affected areas. The lights never opened.
