A City in Taiwan Changes Lights to See More Stars

At night, city lights can hide the stars. The stars are still there. Bright lights from roads can shine up into the sky. Then the sky looks less dark.
Near Taoyuan, a city in Taiwan, people changed lights around Lala Mountain. Workers put covers on some streetlights. They also turned some lights toward the ground. The city says it changed more than 400 public streetlights. Roads still need light so people can travel safely at night.
On October 12, the city said the mountain had won a special award for its night sky. It is Taiwan's first place to win this kind of award. With less light going up, people may see more stars.
