Momenta Plans Robotaxi Tests in More Cities

Chinese autonomous-driving company Momenta is planning a wider robotaxi expansion. Reuters reported that Momenta has more than 100 robotaxis in three countries. Momenta is testing robotaxis in five Chinese cities, Munich, and Abu Dhabi.
The company says it plans to deploy vehicles in Dubai next year and is talking with a few European cities. Japan is another priority. Shuo Xie, who leads Momenta's robotaxi business, said the fleet should be in the hundreds by the end of 2026 and reach several thousand by the end of 2027. These are company goals, not a guarantee.
The story is also about the difficulty of entering a new city. A self-driving system must deal with local road layouts, traffic signs, other road users, weather, and rules. A city may also set its own conditions for testing and commercial service. A successful trial in one location does not mean the technology has already been proven everywhere.
Momenta's trials in Munich and Abu Dhabi are therefore important steps, but they are not the same as a broad public launch. Testing helps a company see how its system performs in a particular local environment before it expands. For riders, the key question is not only whether a car can drive, but whether it can drive safely in their city.
