South Korea's financial regulator held an emergency meeting after a series of reported cyberattacks on banks. It told financial institutions to inspect their systems' defenses against unauthorized access. Authorities were still investigating the attacks.
Hana Bank said personal information from 89 customers had leaked, including names, personal ID numbers, and phone numbers. The bank said financial information was not leaked. That can reduce one immediate danger, but it does not remove every risk.
Personal details can make a false text message or phone call look convincing. A criminal who knows your name may pretend to be your bank, delivery company, or another service. Details from several leaks can be combined into a more complete profile.
A data breach does not automatically mean that a person will lose money. But it is a reason to be careful. If a company tells you about a leak, use its official app or website to check for advice. Do not trust an unexpected message just because it knows your name.
