A Dream Cruise Around the World Stops in Cambodia

The Villa Vie Odyssey suspended its world voyage in Cambodia with 203 passengers aboard. On 27 October, residents were told to leave in Sihanoukville. Local officials said they had about seven hours to pack. Some stayed locally; others flew elsewhere.
The ship left Belfast in October 2024 for several years of travel. Residents could rent cabins or buy long-term rights to live in them. Some sold their homes before joining. The suspension therefore disrupted both travel plans and housing.
The operator blames rising fuel costs. It says monthly fuel expenses per cabin rose from about $1,800 to an estimated $6,000–$8,000 in parts of Asia. These are company expenses divided by cabin, not new bills sent to each passenger. Slower sailing and longer port stays did not save enough, the company said.
Some passengers also complained about earlier itinerary changes and extra-money requests. These complaints do not establish why the voyage stopped. The company is seeking funding and considering financial changes over 60 days, but cannot promise that sailing will resume.
