Why Are Pistachios Suddenly So Expensive?

Pistachios are green nuts that many people enjoy. In some Chinese shops, they now cost more. Some shops also limit how many bags people can buy.
Why? Hot weather hurt flowers on pistachio trees in California. This can leave shells empty. The trees were also expected to produce fewer nuts after a large crop last year. Dry weather and trade problems have affected supplies from Iran too. Experts expect fewer pistachios worldwide, but final totals may differ.
People still want the nuts for snacks and sweets. When there are fewer nuts to buy, prices can rise. New trees cannot help quickly: they usually need five or six years to produce their first small crop.
