NASA Will Search for Caves on the Moon

NASA has chosen new projects for a future Moon Base. One project will look below the Moon's surface for natural tunnels called lava tubes. These tunnels may be places where astronauts could find shelter.
The Moon has very hot and very cold places. It also has harmful radiation and tiny space rocks that can hit the ground. A tunnel under the surface could give better protection. NASA will send an instrument to a place called Marius Hills Pit. It will scan below the ground to see if the pit leads to a large lava tube. NASA has not yet confirmed that there is a useful tunnel there. The project will help teams learn what is safe before people live there.
