Milky Way’s First Microblazar Aims a Jet Toward Earth

Wednesday, September 30, 2026113 words2 minutes1977 reads
Astronomers have identified the first known microblazar in the Milky Way. It is a binary system: a black hole and a massive star orbit each other. The black hole pulls gas from the star. Some gas forms a hot disk, while some shoots out in narrow jets.
One jet points almost along our line of sight. This direction makes the system look unusually bright, but it does not mean Earth is in danger.
Radio images also show the jet hitting a cloud of gas and dust. Scientists think this area may speed up tiny particles to nearly the speed of light. They are studying the system to learn how such powerful particles form.
