Bangkok Floods Persist as Rain Begins to Ease

After days of heavy rain, flooding affected about 329,000 households, or roughly 700,000 people, in Bangkok. Rain began to ease on Monday, September 28, but water remained on roads and in homes. Lat Krabang and Bang Kapi were among the hardest-hit districts.
City officials said canal levels must fall first. Canals carry water away from streets, but full canals have less room for more water. Pumps continued draining roads and neighborhoods, so some places were expected to clear slowly.
The city moved about 1,500 bedridden patients and others needing care to hospitals. Special government holidays on September 28 and 29 aimed to reduce travel and help emergency teams. Flooding was also reported in 25 provinces outside the capital.
