Avalanche Hits Nepali Team Preparing Himlung Expedition

An avalanche hit a camp on Himlung Himal in Nepal on Sunday morning. The mountain is 7,126 metres high. It is in the Nar Phu area, near the border with Tibet. The camp was being prepared for the autumn climbing season.
The workers there were Nepali guides and other support staff. Foreign climbers had not arrived yet; they were expected in five or six days. Early reports said 14 people were unaccounted for. Later, rescuers found two bodies, but their names were not known. Reports did not say clearly whether the two were part of the earlier number.
Bad weather made rescue difficult. The search was still continuing on Sunday evening.
