Anak Krakatau is a volcano in Indonesia. In early September, it erupted for about 25 hours. Hot lava flowed toward the sea. The lava cooled and became hard rock.
Indonesia's Geology Agency used satellite pictures to compare the island on August 8 and September 15. It said the volcano grew by 32.8 hectares, or about 81 acres. This means the island had more land after the eruption.
Later satellite images showed two new pieces of land near the coast. Scientists are still checking what they are. They may be new eruption centers, or they may be piles of volcanic material. The new land is real, but its exact form is not yet certain.
